I'm sure somewhere in his life he probably did use the straight razor, I just don't remember it.

I try to stay away from Amazon too, but my current addiction is swap.com There is nothing there for you but maybe Mrs. Sextant would like some of the clothing.Aliciahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18196096131750922174noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7833454649093878095.post-45435125063940394462015-11-22T07:04:30.984-05:002015-11-22T07:04:30.984-05:00Glad I could instill some nice memories, Alicia. ...Glad I could instill some nice memories, Alicia. Did your dad use a straight razor back then? My dad did and the thing amazed me. How anyone could shave with one of those things and survive the experience was and remains beyond me. I can hardly stand to look at photos of people shaving with them.

As far as buying stuff, I am not really too bad except books and what ever my latest craze is. Books are totally looney. I got far more paper books and Kindle books than I have time left to read them. Right now shaving stuff is appealing to me but sooner or later I will get the right combination of brush, bowl, soap, razor, and blades, and then I will buy the same stuff forever. I am spared much by my aversion to fragrances and gooey-ness, thus removing me from much of the world of pricey preps, soaps and creams, after shaves, and post shave balms.

Too free shipping! Alicia always a pleasure, thanks for stopping by and commenting. Real men groom and and are clean shaven, sorry Busman...no disrespect.

I find myself doing the same thing when shopping Sextant, whether it be on Amazon or in brick and mortar stores, I end up buying something I don't need but want because it's half off or shipping is free. That's how they get us!!

I love the idea of using the brush, soap and bowl. Reminds me of my dad when I was a little girl. Eventually he changed to the disposable razors and the cans of foam, but by then I wasn't paying attention being all caught up in boys. I do remember how interesting I found it that he would swirl that brush in circles on his face and every so often he would dab just a bit on my nose. I don't know what soap he used but it did have a scent that I loved and all day long I smelled my daddy because of that dab on the nose. You brought back to me a fond memory, I had forgotten that Sextant!

Only you can make shaving interesting and a two parter! Can't wait for the next installment!Aliciahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18196096131750922174noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7833454649093878095.post-24600741688123395672015-11-09T09:57:17.496-05:002015-11-09T09:57:17.496-05:00Bussman, you have given me a good idea. Although as a hobby, it is a hell of lot cheaper than a John Deer.

On those same passings of Halley's Comet, I have attempted a beard. I don't like it nor does my wife, so I shall continue scraping.

Other than the shaving drama, I am doing well. Nothing to complain about, then again nothing to brag about either. And yourself?

Busman always a pleasure, eh! Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Usually what I do on such purchases is to toss them into the wish list and wait for something else to come along, then gang them together to get the free shipping. However in my defense, I was going around smelling like a damned rose, which did nothing for my flagging testosterone levels. The shipping for just the soap was probably 1/3 to one half the cost of the stand, for which I was beginning to understand the need to protect the brush from water damage.

I will admit throwing in the extra brush would fall into the ironic category. What the hell, I have free shipping now, I may as well get that brush I have been eyeing up. The stand was a good purchase, the brush was a waste of money--not because it is a bad brush, I just prefer the stiff boar bristle brush. After reading all the brouhaha about silver tipped badger brushes, I didn't believe that a brush, from a lowly boar no less, that I spent less than 4 bucks could be any good. This happens when you listen to shaving snob hype.

As always, it is great to subject myself to Olga's Razor, a Yankee curmudgeon's adaptation of Occam's Razor for determining logical truths. Thanks for stopping by and commenting Olga.
